NUCB2는 칼슘 결합 단백질 EF-hand 모티프를 가진 단백질로, 신경세포에서 주로 발현되는 성장 억제 인자인 Necdin과 결합할 수 있습니다.
이 단백질은 분비형으로, Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, Nesfatin-3 세 가지 주요 펩타이드로 절단됩니다.
그중 Nesfatin-1은 렙틴 비의존적으로 식욕 억제를 유도하는 것으로 알려져 있으며, NUCB2/Nesfatin-1은 에너지 항상성과 신경내분비 기능 조절에도 관여하는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
