MA5-17709 targets CD21/CR2 in FACS applications and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is mouse monoclonal antibodies raised against human CD21.
Target Information
CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor) binds C3 complement fragments, particularly breakdown fragments that remain covalently attached to complement-activating surfaces or antigens.
It plays critical roles in:
- Uptake and retention of immunocomplexes
- Survival of memory B cells
- Development and maintenance of humoral responses to T-dependent antigens
CD21 also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and is involved in targeting prions to follicular dendritic cells, aiding neuroinvasion after peripheral exposure.
A soluble form, sCD21, is shed from lymphocytes and retains ligand-binding ability.
CD21 interacts with CD23 and associates with CD19, CD81, and Leu13 to form a signaling complex for B cell activation.
Genetic variations in CD21 are linked to susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus type 9 (SLEB9).
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
