Target Information
Neuropilin 1 is a 923-amino-acid membrane-bound coreceptor belonging to the neuropilin family, containing two CUB domains, two F5/8 type C domains, and a MAM domain. It forms a heterodimer with Neuropilin 2 (NRP2) and binds to plexin (PLXNB1) to form semaphorin receptors.
Primarily expressed in the nervous system, Neuropilin 1 plays roles in cardiovascular development, angiogenesis, axon guidance, neuronal circuit formation, cell survival, neuronal migration, and organogenesis.
It functions as a receptor for both semaphorins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), acting as a regulator of VEGF-induced angiogenesis. Neuropilin 1 may also be involved in aggressive prostate carcinoma and breast cancer progression.
