Target Information
PDK4 (PDHK4) regulates glucose metabolism by phosphorylating the E1 alpha subunit of the mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. Inhibition of PDHKs is considered a potential therapeutic approach for type II diabetes. PDK4 is localized in the mitochondrial matrix, and its expression is regulated by glucocorticoids, retinoic acid, and insulin. It contributes to the regulation of glucose metabolism through inhibition of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
