Target Information
TCF7L2 (also known as TCF4) is a high mobility group (HMG) box-containing transcription factor that plays a key role in the Wnt signaling pathway. It is implicated in glucose homeostasis through regulation of the pro-glucagon gene, which encodes glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).
Genetic variants of TCF7L2 are associated with type 2 diabetes and play roles in beta-cell survival and function.
Multiple splicing isoforms are differentially expressed during cancer progression, and gene targeting studies indicate that TCF7L2 is required for maintenance of crypt stem cells in the small intestine.
