Target Information
Cytokeratin pan is part of a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins that are characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides.
Cytokeratins range in molecular weight between 40 kDa–68 kDa, and have an isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8. Individual human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20.
Different epithelia express cytokeratins characteristic of their type and related to their maturation or differentiation stage. These expression patterns are valuable in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, and are useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
The composition of cytokeratin pairs varies with epithelial cell type, differentiation stage, growth environment, and disease state. Keratins are widely used as markers in cancer research and tumor diagnosis.
