Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is essential for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with several tumors, including anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. The most common alteration is chromosomal rearrangement, producing a fusion gene between ALK and the nucleophosmin (NPM) gene. The resulting NPM-ALK fusion protein is oncogenic. ALK encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, showing high similarity to LTK, and plays a crucial role in neuronal development.
