Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte)와 특정 아교세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초 신경의 衛星세포(satellite cells) 및 비수초성 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cells)에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 강하며, 항-GFAP 항체는 astrocyte 세포 마커로 널리 사용됩니다.
GFAP는 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytic cell 유래)에서 과발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구 등에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 교세포를 구분하는 데 유용한 마커입니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상세포 질환)를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 이소폼이 존재합니다.
