Target Information
Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic β-cells. It regulates carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism by promoting glucose and amino acid uptake and glycogen storage. The mature insulin molecule consists of two chains (A and B) derived from proinsulin, linked by disulfide bonds. Deficiency of insulin leads to diabetes mellitus and it is also found in β-cell tumors such as insulinoma.
