Target Information

SRC is a cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase and proto-oncogene involved in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. It regulates growth and differentiation of eukaryotic cells by associating with cytoplasmic regions of various cell surface receptors to facilitate signal transduction. SRC also plays roles in cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis.
In humans, the SRC gene is located on chromosome 20. Activity is regulated by phosphorylation of Tyr416 and Tyr527, which have opposing effects on enzyme activity. Mutations in SRC may contribute to malignant progression of colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same SRC protein have been identified.
