Target Information
Gemin 3 is a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), and functions as a putative RNA helicase. DEAD box proteins are involved in various cellular processes including translation initiation, RNA splicing, and assembly of ribosomes and spliceosomes. Gemin 3, as part of the SMN complex, exhibits ATPase activity and plays a catalytic role in RNP function. Dysfunction of Gemin 3 has been associated with spinal muscular dystrophy and muscular atrophy.
