This antibody recognizes a functional epitope of the Fas molecule.

Target Information

FAS (Fas, CD95, APO-1) is a 46 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein functioning as a cell death receptor of the TNFR superfamily. It also exists in a soluble form (~26 kDa). Stimulation of FAS leads to aggregation of intracellular FAS-associated death domains (FADD), formation of the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC), and activation of caspases. This cascade triggers apoptosis and can also activate NF-kappaB, MAPK3/ERK1, and MAPK8/JNK pathways. FAS is involved in proliferation signaling in normal fibroblasts and T cells. Multiple isoforms exist due to alternative splicing, with some lacking the transmembrane domain and acting as negative regulators of apoptosis. The Fas/Fas ligand system is implicated in diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer, and plays a key role in antiviral immune responses.
