Target Information
MARCO (Macrophage Receptor with Collagenous Structure), also known as SR-A6 or SCARA2, is a macrophage surface receptor and a member of the class A scavenger receptor family.
It binds both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria via an extracellular, C-terminal scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) domain.
The protein includes short cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains, an extracellular spacer domain, and a long collagenous domain that can form trimeric structures.
Due to its expression in tumor-infiltrating macrophages and its immunosuppressive role in the tumor microenvironment, MARCO is considered a potential target for cancer immunotherapy.
