Target Information
Osteopontin is an RGD-containing glycoprotein that interacts with integrins and CD44 as major receptors. It plays key roles in bone mineralization, cell adhesion, migration, chronic inflammation, and transformation.
Proteolytic cleavage by thrombin and matrix metalloproteinases near the integrin-binding Arg-Gly-Asp sequence modulates its function and integrin-binding properties.
Thrombin-cleaved fragments of Osteopontin are overexpressed in malignant glial tumors, providing a survival advantage and novel substrate for plasmin and cathepsin D.
