Target Information
This intronless gene encodes a transcription factor that belongs to the high mobility group (HMG)-box family of DNA-binding proteins.
The protein acts as the testis-determining factor (TDF), initiating male sex determination.
Mutations in this gene can result in XY females with gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer syndrome), and translocation of part of the Y chromosome containing this gene to the X chromosome can cause XX male syndrome.
