Target Information
Spectrin (Sp) is the most abundant erythrocyte membrane skeleton protein, maintaining the cell’s biconcave shape and flexibility. It consists of an alpha (280 kDa) and beta (246 kDa) subunit forming a 100 nm rod-like heterodimer. In non-erythroid tissues, homologous subunits (fodrin) exist, designated as alpha-2 and beta-2. Alternative splicing produces variants such as beta-1 epsilon-1.
