Target Information
SLC27A1 is a protein-coding gene that mediates the ATP-dependent import of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) into the cell by facilitating their translocation at the plasma membrane. It also exhibits acyl-CoA ligase activity for long-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids. SLC27A1 may function directly as a transporter or as part of a multimeric complex that traps and directs fatty acids toward accumulation. It plays a crucial role in regulating LCFA availability in tissues undergoing high levels of beta-oxidation or triglyceride synthesis and may be involved in cholesterol metabolism regulation.
