Target Information
The DEGS1 gene encodes a member of the membrane fatty acid (sphingolipid delta 4) desaturase family. It functions by inserting double bonds at the delta 4 position in fatty acids. DEGS1 is an intracellular enzyme, and its overexpression has been shown to inhibit biosynthesis of the EGF receptor, suggesting a role in regulation of EGF receptor processing. Two splice variants have been identified.
