Target Information
Carbohydrate sulfotransferase 1 (CHST1), also known as KSGal6ST or KSST, is a keratan sulfate sulfotransferase predominantly expressed in brain and skeletal muscle, localized to the trans-Golgi network. CHST1 mediates the sulfation of keratan in the cornea, essential for maintaining corneal transparency. It catalyzes the transfer of sulfate groups from 3′-phosphoadenosine 5′-phosphosulfate to position six of galactose residues on keratan sulfate chains, contributing to L-selectin ligand generation. Mutations in CHST1 may be associated with macular corneal dystrophy (MCD).
