Sheep anti-Human growth hormone antibody recognizes human growth hormone. Growth hormone is a small peptide hormone released by the anterior pituitary under the control of the hypothalamus. It acts to control body growth and metabolic activity.

Target Information

Human growth hormone (hGH) belongs to the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones that play an important role in growth control. The GH1 gene, along with four additional related genes, is located at the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17. These genes share a high degree of sequence identity. Alternative splicing results in five isoforms ranging from approximately 19 kDa to 24 kDa. HGH is produced by somatotroph cells in the pituitary and acts through cytokine receptor subfamily membrane receptors. It stimulates the liver and other tissues to secrete IGF-1, promoting body growth, myoblast differentiation and proliferation, amino acid uptake, and protein synthesis. Mutations or deletions in the gene can lead to growth hormone deficiency and short stature.
