Target Information
The EYA1 gene encodes a member of the eyes absent family of proteins. This protein may play a role in the development of the kidney, branchial arches, eye, and ear. Mutations are associated with branchiootorenal dysplasia syndrome, branchiootic syndrome, and certain congenital ocular anomalies. In mice, a similar protein can act as a transcriptional activator. Four transcript variants encoding three distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.
