Target Information

CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) present on various stem cell populations. It serves as a stem cell marker and may function as a receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. CD34 may mediate attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells, and act as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans binding to lectins. Its intracellular domain can be phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction.
Diseases associated with CD34 dysfunction include dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
