Ferritin Light Chain 유전자는 ferritin 단백질의 light subunit을 암호화합니다. Ferritin은 세포 내 주요 철 저장 단백질로, 24개의 heavy 및 light chain 서브유닛으로 구성되어 있습니다. 서브유닛 조성의 변화는 조직별 철 흡수 및 방출 속도에 영향을 줄 수 있습니다. Ferritin의 주요 기능은 철을 용해성이고 무독성 형태로 저장하는 것입니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 여러 신경퇴행성 질환 및 고페리틴혈증-백내장 증후군과 관련이 있습니다. 본 유전자는 다수의 pseudogene을 가집니다.
