Ferritin Light Chain은 세포 내 철 저장 단백질의 가벼운 서브유닛을 인코딩하는 유전자입니다. Ferritin은 prokaryote 및 eukaryote 모두에서 주요 철 저장 단백질이며, 24개의 heavy 및 light chain 서브유닛으로 구성됩니다. 서브유닛 조성의 변화는 조직별 철 흡수 및 방출 속도에 영향을 줄 수 있습니다. Ferritin의 주요 기능은 철을 용해성이고 무독성 상태로 저장하는 것입니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 여러 신경퇴행성 질환 및 hyperferritinemia-cataract syndrome과 관련이 있습니다. 또한 다수의 pseudogene을 가집니다.
