• For Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
• This antibody is predicted to show broad reactivity.

Target Information

Smooth Muscle Actin belongs to the actin family of highly conserved proteins involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity.

• Alpha, beta, and gamma actin isoforms have been identified.
• Alpha actin is a major component of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins regulate cell motility.
• Smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) is found in skeletal muscle and smooth muscle vessel walls, gut wall, myometrium, and myoepithelial cells in breast and salivary glands.
• Defects in the smooth muscle actin gene are associated with familial thoracic aortic aneurysm type 6.
• Alpha-smooth muscle actin is abundant in vascular and visceral smooth muscle cells and appears in stress fibers of fibroblastic cells during wound healing and fibrocontractive diseases.
• Multiple alternatively spliced variants of smooth muscle actin have been identified.
