Target Information
Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) belongs to the Herpesviridae family, comprising HSV-1 and HSV-2, also known as Human Herpes Virus 1 and 2 (HHV-1 and HHV-2).
- HSV-1 typically causes oral infections such as cold sores.
- HSV-2 is primarily associated with genital herpes.
Transmission occurs through viral shedding from infected individuals.
The virion consists of a large double-stranded linear DNA genome enclosed in a capsid and surrounded by a viral envelope.
HSV strains contain over 70 open reading frames (ORFs) and have been linked to neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
