Product Specific Information

This antibody induces homotypic aggregation of B cells and inhibits anti-Ig and IL-4 induced proliferation, requiring the presence of both extracellular loops of TAPA-1 for binding.
The epitope recognized by this antibody is sensitive to formaldehyde fixation and tissue processing; acetone fixation is recommended for frozen sections.
For FACS analysis, use 10 µL of the suggested working dilution to label 1×10^6 cells in 100 µL.
Hamster anti-Mouse CD81 antibody, clone Eat2, recognizes mouse and rat CD81 (TAPA-1, Target of the Antiproliferative Antibody 1).

Target Information

CD81 (TAPA-1) is a member of the tetraspanin family expressed on most nucleated cells, especially germinal center B cells. It forms complexes with other tetraspanin proteins, integrins, coreceptors, and MHC molecules, influencing adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of B and T cells.
In muscle tissue, CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance and serves as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus.
Like other tetraspanins (CD9, CD37, CD53, CD63, CD82), CD81 mediates signal transduction events regulating cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
CD81 associates with CD19, CD21, Leu 13, and integrins on the cell membrane and is involved in anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines, particularly large cell lymphomas.
It is localized in a tumor-suppressor gene region and considered a candidate gene for malignancies.
