Product Specific Information
This clone recognizes the L1 or Calprotectin molecule, an intracytoplasmic antigen comprised of a 12 kDa alpha chain and a 14 kDa beta chain.
Originally described as binding to epitopes common to both chains, later studies indicate that it detects an epitope exclusively on the beta chain. The antigen is expressed by granulocytes, monocytes, and tissue macrophages.
Variable staining results have been reported for brain macrophages and microglia. The epitope is well conserved across species and is routinely used for detection of myeloid cells.
Note: Membrane permeabilization is required for flow cytometry applications. Use 10 µL of the suggested working dilution to label 1×10⁶ cells in 100 µL.
Target Information
The S100A8/A9 heterocomplex (MRP-8/MRP-14, calprotectin) comprises ~60% of the cytoplasmic protein fraction of circulating polymorphonuclear granulocytes and is also present in monocytes, macrophages, and eosinophils.
It exhibits antibacterial, antifungal, immunomodulating, and antiproliferative effects and acts as a chemotactic factor for neutrophils.
Elevated calprotectin levels are associated with inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and can be detected in plasma, saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, stools, and synovial fluid.
