This antibody detects endogenous levels of total DIO3.
Target Information
DIO3 (Type III iodothyronine deiodinase) belongs to the iodothyronine deiodinase family. It catalyzes the inactivation of thyroid hormones by inner ring deiodination of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), producing inactive metabolites reverse T3 (rT3) and T2.
This enzyme is highly expressed in the pregnant uterus, placenta, fetal and neonatal tissues, indicating its essential role in thyroid hormone regulation during embryonic development.
DIO3 contains a selenocysteine (Sec) residue, critical for enzyme activity. The Sec residue is encoded by the UGA codon, which typically signals translation termination. The 3′ UTR of Sec-containing genes includes a SECIS (selenocysteine insertion sequence) element that allows UGA to be recognized as a Sec codon instead of a stop signal.
