Target Information

In humans, ZIM2 and PEG3 are distinct genes sharing multiple 5′ exons and a common promoter, both paternally expressed.
Alternative splicing connects shared 5′ exons with unique exons for ZIM2 or PEG3.
In other mammals, ZIM2 does not undergo imprinting, and ZIM2 and PEG3 do not share exons.
Human PEG3 protein belongs to the Kruppel C2H2-type zinc finger family and may play roles in cell proliferation and p53-mediated apoptosis.
PEG3 shows tumor suppressor activity and involvement in tumorigenesis in glioma and ovarian cells.
Alternative splicing of PEG3 yields multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
