Product Specific Information

1 µg/mL of MA5-45231 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin in 10 µg of HeLa lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 10 kDa.

Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that plays a major role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein. The gene encoding ubiquitin-ribosomal fusion proteins (such as ribosomal protein S27a and L40) produces fusion proteins that are post-translationally processed to generate free ubiquitin monomers and ribosomal components. These ribosomal proteins contain zinc finger domains and are localized in the cytoplasm. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
