Target Information
Lipase family proteins are part of a robust genetic superfamily including esterases and thioesterases. Members share tertiary structure rather than primary sequence. Hepatic Lipase (HL, LIPC) plays a key role in regulating lipoprotein composition and transport in human plasma. Deficiencies in hepatic lipase can lead to abnormal lipoprotein levels and are associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). This enzyme is regulated by thyroid hormones and functions both as a triglyceride hydrolase and as a ligand for receptor-mediated lipoprotein uptake. Hepatic Lipase localizes to endothelial surfaces of extrahepatic tissues.
