Target Information

IGLC2 is involved in the constant region of immunoglobulin heavy chains. Immunoglobulins (antibodies) are membrane-bound or secreted glycoproteins produced by B lymphocytes.
In the recognition phase of humoral immunity, membrane-bound immunoglobulins act as receptors that, upon antigen binding, trigger clonal expansion and differentiation of B lymphocytes into plasma cells.
Secreted immunoglobulins mediate the effector phase of humoral immunity, leading to antigen elimination.
Each immunoglobulin has two antigen-binding sites formed by the variable domains of one heavy and one light chain.
The variable domains are assembled by V-(D)-J rearrangement and undergo somatic hypermutation, enabling affinity maturation after antigen exposure.
