Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
This gene encodes the pulmonary-associated surfactant protein C (SPC), an extremely hydrophobic surfactant protein essential for lung function and homeostasis after birth. Pulmonary surfactant is a surface-active lipoprotein complex composed of 90% lipids and 10% proteins including SPA, SPB, SPC, and SPD. It is secreted by alveolar cells to maintain pulmonary tissue stability by reducing surface tension. Mutations in this gene cause pulmonary surfactant metabolism dysfunction type 2 (surfactant protein C deficiency), associated with interstitial lung disease in infants, children, and adults. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
