Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes human CD53. It does not react with the baboon and horse antigen. CD53 is a member of the tetraspanin family and is involved in cellular activation as part of a signal transduction complex involving other membrane glycoproteins.

Target Information

CD53 is a tetraspanin family transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in the lymphoid-myeloid lineage. It forms complexes with leukocyte surface proteins such as CD2, CD19, CD21, MHC II, VLA-4, or other tetraspanins (CD37, CD81, CD82), modulating various signaling processes. CD53 contributes to radioresistancy of tumor cells and exhibits anti-apoptotic effects when triggered. In thymus, CD53 is up-regulated during T cell positive selection and strongly expressed upon macrophage exposure to bacterial lipopolysaccharide, while neutrophil stimulation leads to down-regulation of CD53 expression.
