Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes human CD59, a glycosyl phosphatidyl-inositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface protein. It regulates complement-mediated cell lysis and is involved in lymphocyte signal transduction.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored, ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It protects autologous cells from complement-mediated lysis by binding C8 and/or C9, preventing cytolytic pore formation. CD59 also acts as a low-affinity ligand for CD2, contributing to T-cell costimulation and lymphocyte signal transduction. Mutations in CD59 cause deficiency leading to hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants of CD59 have been identified.
