Product Specific Information
This antibody binds to MUC1, a tumor-associated antigen expressed on many breast cancer cells. It does not show reactivity towards fibroblasts, lymphoblastoid cells, or epithelial cell lines of non-breast origin. The antibody recognizes the PDTR epitope of mucin.
Target Information
MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic cell lineages. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular domain containing numerous O-linked glycans. MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with each allele encoding a different number of tandem repeats (30–90), resulting in molecular weight variability.
MUC1 is abundantly expressed (>90%) in breast carcinomas and metastases. Overexpression, aberrant localization, and altered glycosylation are associated with carcinomas. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, encoding different isoforms.
