Product Specific Information

The rabbit polyclonal antibody reacts with beta-galactosidase. Beta-galactosidase is a large 464 kDa tetramer when assayed by western blot under nonreducing conditions and a 116 kDa monomer under reducing conditions.
The beta-galactosidase activity allows for quick determination of cells expressing the lacZ gene. The lacZ gene is used as a reporter construct for transfection efficiency determination and histochemical localization in eukaryotic cells.
The lacZ gene product catalyzes the hydrolysis of the substrate 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside (X-gal), producing a blue color easily visualized under a microscope.

Applications Reported: Purified Anti-beta galactosidase fusion proteins poly has been reported for use in immunoblotting (WB) and immunohistochemical staining.
Applications Tested: Tested by immunoblotting (WB) at a 1:400 starting dilution. It is recommended to titrate for optimal performance.
Purity: Greater than 90%, determined by SDS-PAGE.
Aggregation: Less than 10%, determined by HPLC.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

Beta Galactosidase encodes a member of the glycosyl hydrolase 35 family. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, including at least one that encodes a preproprotein processed to generate the mature lysosomal enzyme.
This enzyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of a terminal beta-linked galactose residue from ganglioside substrates and other glycoconjugates.
Mutations in this gene are associated with GM1-gangliosidosis and Morquio B syndrome. Diseases associated with GLB1 include GM1-Gangliosidosis Type I and Type II.
