Target Information
The Caspase-3 gene encodes a cysteine-aspartic acid protease crucial for apoptosis. Caspases are activated through proteolytic processing, forming active enzyme dimers. Caspase-3 cleaves and activates caspases 6, 7, and 9, and is itself processed by caspases 8, 9, and 10. It plays a key role in amyloid-beta precursor protein cleavage, linked to neuronal death in Alzheimer’s disease.
Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
