Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of NMDAR2B only when phosphorylated at Ser1284.

Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors (NMDAR) are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in synaptic transmission efficiency that underlies certain types of memory and learning. NMDARs play a role in neuronal development and are implicated in central nervous system disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death.

Overexpression of the NR2B subunit has been associated with enhanced learning and memory, while reduced NR2B expression is observed in aged, memory-impaired animals. Phosphorylation at Tyr1472 may increase NMDAR expression at the synapse, influencing synaptic plasticity. NMDAR2B forms a heterotrimer with NR1, NR2, and NR3 subunits. Dysfunctions in NMDAR2B are linked to epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant 6-related intellectual disability.
