Target Information

Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and function in mitochondrial protein synthesis.
Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes.
MRPS15 encodes a 28S subunit protein belonging to the ribosomal protein S15P family. The human MRPS15 protein is more than twice the size of its E. coli counterpart, with conserved 12S rRNA binding sites.
Between human and mouse, MRPS15 is the least conserved among small subunit ribosomal proteins. Pseudogenes are found on chromosomes 15q and 19q.
