Target Information
Nuclear pore complexes regulate the transport of macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm. They consist of at least 100 distinct polypeptide subunits, many belonging to the nucleoporin family. Nucleoporins are glycoproteins located in nuclear pores and contain characteristic pentapeptide XFXFG repeats as well as O-linked N-acetylglucosamine residues oriented toward the cytoplasm.
The NUP153 protein has three distinct domains:
- N-terminal region – contains pore targeting and RNA-binding domains
- Central region – contains multiple zinc finger motifs
- C-terminal region – contains multiple XFXFG repeats
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants of this gene.
