ALOX5 유전자는 Arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein과 함께 류코트리엔 합성에 필요한 단백질을 암호화합니다.
류코트리엔은 아라키돈산 대사 산물로, 천식, 관절염, 건선 등 다양한 염증 반응에 관여합니다.
이 단백질은 세포막에 위치하며, 그 기능 억제제는 5-lipoxygenase의 세포질에서 세포막으로의 이동 및 활성화를 방해합니다.
