Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It acts as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and is found both on the cell surface and in soluble form. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharide (LPS) through LBP, distinguishing structural variations and aiding in LPS neutralization. It also interacts with apoptotic cells and influences allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcripts encoding the same isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
