Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems. These are developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits, followed by screening individual clones to select optimal candidates for production.

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is similar to leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor 1 (LAIR1), a membrane-bound receptor modulating innate immune response.
LAIR2 encodes a soluble receptor that may inhibit collagen-induced platelet aggregation and influence vessel formation during placental implantation.
This gene maps to region 19q13.4, the leukocyte receptor cluster containing 29 immunoglobulin superfamily genes.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
