Product Specific Information

  • Expected to cross-react with hamster and rabbit due to sequence homology.
  • Does not cross-react with beta Crystallin or alpha A Crystallin.
  • Detects a ~22 kDa band.
  • Store as a concentrated solution. Centrifuge briefly before opening the vial.

Target Information

Crystallins are the major structural proteins of the vertebrate eye lens, comprising about 95% of total lens protein. They are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
The three main classes of crystallins are alpha, beta, and gamma. Alpha-crystallin, the largest, consists of two gene products: alpha-A and alpha-B.
Alpha-crystallin maintains lens transparency and refractive index, and functions as a molecular chaperone to prevent protein aggregation that can lead to cataracts.
Phosphorylation of alpha-crystallin is associated with cellular stress response and protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
