Target Information
CADM1 mediates homophilic cell-cell adhesion in a Ca²⁺-independent manner and heterophilic adhesion with CADM3 and PVRL3. It acts as a tumor suppressor in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. Interaction with CRTAM promotes NK cell cytotoxicity and IFN-γ secretion by CD8⁺ cells, as well as NK cell-mediated rejection of CADM3-expressing tumors. CADM1 may contribute to less invasive phenotypes of lepidic growth tumor cells and facilitate communication between mast cells and nerves. Together with MITF, it is essential for mast cell development and survival. In neurons, CADM1 functions as a synaptic adhesion molecule involved in synapse assembly, neuronal migration, axon growth, and fasciculation. It also plays roles in spermatogenesis, aiding adhesion of spermatocytes and spermatids to Sertoli cells for proper differentiation into mature spermatozoa.
