Target Information
Lin28 is a transcription factor first identified for its role in developmental timing in C. elegans.
It plays a critical role in stem cell generation and maintenance, particularly in the creation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
Lin28, along with POU5F1, Sox2, and NANOG, can reprogram fibroblasts into iPS cells.
Recent studies show that iPS cells can be generated using plasmid expression of Lin28, Sox2, POU5F1, and c-Myc, improving safety by avoiding viral vectors.
