Product Specific Information
This antibody detects human recombinant prion protein after phosphorylation by the Cdk5/p25 complex. It may also detect aggregated forms of prion in human PC3 cells treated with Calyculin A.
Target Information
Human prion protein (PrP, also known as PRNP) is a GPI-anchored cell surface glycoprotein associated with lipid rafts and functions as a signaling molecule. PrP plays roles in apoptosis, epithelial cell proliferation, and junction-associated protein distribution in enterocytes. Conversion of normal PrPc to abnormal PrPSc is a key step in prion neurodegenerative disorders such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). PrPc is rich in alpha-helices, whereas PrPSc has higher beta-sheet content and is resistant to proteinase K.
