Antibody detects endogenous levels of Androgen Receptor only when phosphorylated at Tyr535.


Target Information

The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid-hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. It has three major functional domains: the N-terminal domain, DNA-binding domain, and androgen-binding domain. AR acts as a ligand-activated transcription factor binding testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Upon ligand binding, AR translocates into the nucleus, dimerizes, and activates transcription of androgen-responsive genes.

AR signaling is essential for male reproductive organ development and function and also influences muscle, hair follicles, and brain. As a phosphoprotein, AR regulates MAP kinase activity, and alterations in AR signaling are associated with diseases such as prostate cancer, Kennedy’s disease, and male infertility. Mutations in AR can cause complete androgen insensitivity (CAIS).
